Women’s Apparel 

The women’s apparel includes the following conventional basic categories –

  • Outerwear: This includes coats, suits, rainwear, and jackets.
  • Dresses: This includes one or two piece designs and ensembles (a dress with a jacket or coat).
  • Sportswear and separates: This include active, contemporary; town-and-country and spectator sportswear like pants, shorts, tops, swimwear, and cover-ups; bathing caps; beach bags; sweaters; skirts; jackets; tennis dresses; casual dresses; pantsuits.
  • After five and evening cloths: This consists of dressy apparel.
  • Brides and bridesmaid attire
  • Blouses: This includes both dressy and tailored.
  • Uniforms and aprons: This includes house dresses and sometimes career apparel.
  • Maternity

The women’s apparel is divided into several size ranges as follows 

  • Women’s: This includes even-numbered half sizes 12.5 to 26.5 and straight sizes 36 to 52.
  • Misses: This includes regular even-numbered sizes 6 to 20, tall sizes 12 to 20, and sometimes sizes as small as 2.
  • Juniors: This includes regular sizes 5 to 17 and petite sizes 1 to 15.
  • Petites: This includes regular even-numbered sizes 2 to 16 and junior sizes 1 to 15.

Children’s Apparel

The children’s wear industry specializes in six basic size ranges. The age group and sizes included in each category are as follows:

  • Infants: In this category two sizing systems are used. One system uses sizes 3 to 24 months. The other uses sizes newborn, small, medium, large and extra large.
  • Toddlers: The category which is worn by young children who are learning to walk in Toddlers. The sizes range from T1 to T4 (the T stands for toddler).
  • Children: This includes sizes 3 to 6X for girls and 3 to 7 for boys. This is worn by girls and boys between ages 3 to 6.
  • Girls: This includes sizes 7 to 14, corresponding to the growth and development of girls as they enter their teen age.
  • Preteen: This includes sizes 6 to 14, developed to provide the more sophisticated styling required by some girls.
  • Boys: This includes sizes 8 to 20, corresponding to the growth and development of boys as they enter their teen age and mature. Young men, student or teen sizes have been also developed to provide more sophisticated styling required by some young men.
